A great wrap-up of the night’s discussions!
To paraphrase Frank Zappa, this sounds like people who can’t write eat preaching to people who can’t think on behalf of people who don’t eat.
Thanks Helen.
These tips also sound like basic media relations. Somewhere along the way, PR has forgetting these basics that it took the public, aka bloggers, to remind us of it.
Karl Petrovic / Shannon Perry – methinks an alias or two at play here…and of course, the IP address never lies. Don’t worry, your true identity is safe with us. We are chuffed that you read our blog and we would never have picked you for a Zappa fan.
Aaron – I like your take on it and yes, a lot of these tips can be applied to media relations.
Some useful points overall but I would add that part time & fulltime bloggers are not the same
As a professional blogger my work is made much easier if I get treated like a journalist when trying to get information, sources for an article, access to an event/trade show etc
As a full time personal fashion and lifestyle blogger, I’d have to say that I agree with most of the points in principle. Although the issue of ” Pay for Post” is a contentious one, it seems that there is room in the market for this PROVIDED full disclosure is entered into. As I often say to the PR’s who contact me, ” You can buy my opinion, but you cannot buy my GOOD opinion.” I reserve the right to do as Mother told me and when I have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all.

Great post.

I think the meetup was a great idea as the relationship is a two way street. PRs get the publicity from having their clients’ products written about and bloggers get the free stuff!
The tips are well put together and more PR companies should pay attention to these tips!
Neerav – Some say don’t treat bloggers like journalists and some say do treat them like journalists. I don’t think you can have a ‘one size fits all’ rule. If you treat all people with a certain level of professionalism and service there’s no need for an argument about one or the other.
Candice – Thanks for your input. I exercise your mother’s advice daily.
Rilsta – Thank you!
